How to Fix ERR_INTERNET_DISCONNECTED

Topic: Google Chrome Connection Errors | Status: Updated

What is this error?

The "ERR_INTERNET_DISCONNECTED" error in Google Chrome indicates that your device is not currently connected to the internet. This error can arise from various issues, including network configuration problems, hardware malfunctions, or issues with your internet service provider.

How to Fix It

  1. Check Your Internet Connection: Ensure that your device is connected to your Wi-Fi network or Ethernet. Look for the Wi-Fi icon in the system tray or status bar; a disconnected symbol signifies that you are offline.
  2. Restart Your Router/Modem: Unplug your router or modem, wait for about 30 seconds, and then plug it back in. Wait for the device to fully reboot before attempting to reconnect.
  3. Run Network Troubleshooter: On Windows, open the 'Settings' app, navigate to 'Network & Internet,' and select 'Network Troubleshooter.' This will help identify and resolve network issues automatically.
  4. Check Proxy Settings: Go to Chrome settings, type "proxy" in the search bar, and select 'Open your computer's proxy settings.' Ensure "No proxy" or "Automatically detect settings" is selected, then save any changes.
  5. Reset Winsock and TCP/IP: Open Command Prompt as an administrator and enter the commands: 'netsh winsock reset' followed by 'netsh int ip reset.' Restart your computer after executing these commands.
  6. Disable VPN or Proxy Services: If you are using a VPN or proxy, temporarily disable them and check if that resolves the issue, as they can sometimes interfere with your network connectivity.
  7. Contact Your Internet Service Provider: If none of the above steps resolve the issue, reach out to your ISP to ensure that there are no outages or maintenance work affecting your connection.
