Topic: Linux Ubuntu Boot Errors | Status: Updated
What is this error?
The "Error: live media not found" message occurs when your Ubuntu system cannot find the live media (USB or CD/DVD) used to boot the system. This error may prevent the user from accessing the live environment for installation or recovery.
How to Fix It
- Check Boot Order: Restart your computer and enter the BIOS/UEFI settings. Ensure that the boot order prioritizes your USB drive or CD/DVD over other devices.
- Verify Media Integrity: If using a USB drive, confirm that the live media is properly created. You can use tools like 'Rufus' or 'Etcher', and check the integrity of the downloaded ISO file against its checksum.
- Use a Different USB Port: If you are using a USB drive, try connecting it to a different USB port, preferably a port directly connected to the motherboard (usually USB 2.0 ports), as some booting issues may arise from compatibility problems with USB 3.0 ports.
- Recreate Live Media: If the issue persists, recreate the live USB or burn the ISO to the DVD again. Ensure a proper ejection of the device after the writing process to avoid corruption.
- Check for BIOS/UEFI Settings: Look for options related to "Secure Boot" and "Fast Boot" in your BIOS/UEFI settings. Disable "Secure Boot" as it may block the boot process from certain media.
- Test on Another Computer: If possible, try booting the live media on a different computer to determine if the issue is with the media itself or the original hardware.
